Apple watch 3 rumors: The rumor carousel is about to get ready to spin. A so called tipster who claims to be an insider of the Apple Watch development team has expressed that the next generation of the Apple Watch could be expected to launch summer 2017. With the tipster confirming that early prototypes are already in production, we wonder, can the Apple Watch version 3 make the iPhone obsolete?
This is a question that is yet to be garnering attention, with many instead wondering whether Apple will alter its current rectangular form to a circular one, due to it being the choice of its competitors Samsung Gear S2 and the LG Watch. I personally feel that it does not matter whether we end up with a rectangular or circular Apple watch 3, their biggest challenge, in my opinion, lies in a completely different field.
Of course developers are constantly facing design limitations, for example, what battery technology has to offer at this time. According to many, it appears to be really important for technology to be seamlessly integrated into devices that ‘apparently’ need to look as classic as possible. But does that immediately mean that the expectations of today’s smart watches limit themselves to its aesthetics? With the wearable tech industry still in its infancy, there will be a point where the added value of performance will make the difference.
One of the main obstacles standing in the way of consumers owning an Apple Watch is down to the fact that they would require an iPhone in order to use the watch’s full capabilities. According to IDC, the Apple’s iPhone market share is still “only” 14.1% in Q2 2015(Source: IDC), which means that 85.9% who do not own an iPhone are less likely to purchase an Apple Watch if it means that they will not get the full Apple experience. So what it ends up coming down to, is that even if they would like the Apple Watch, they might not be ready to completely give in to Apple.
In my opinion, this ‘problem’ illustrates where the opportunities lie for Apple. Although, it seems that the smart phone is here to stay for a while, it isn’t too hard to imagine a technology that will offer a better deal that will allow consumers to not carry their mobile phone with them at all times. Being able to wear the same smart phone abilities on your wrist is the kind of future technology that make it a better deal.
Apple watch 2017
When it comes to the aesthetics, who suddenly decided that the rectangular form factor of the first Apple Watch makes it look like a computer anyway? I surely don’t think so. I personally do not mind walking around like I am wearing the future on my wrist. Frankly, as long as that computer does not look like a computer, I am convinced that we will learn to love the Apple Watch, eventually.
With all this being said, it won’t be the first time that the design of an Apple product has changed during its lifetime. I have lost count of how many different types of iPod’s have been released. Now with the Apple Watch selling over 3 million units worldwide, it is leading in the war of the wrists, but we are still a long way from developing a smart watch that will be able to replace our smart phone. If I was Tim Cook, I would not pay any attention to my competitors focus on the smart watch’s form, I will instead focus covertly on developing a smart watch that will soon make the smart phone completely obsolete.
